A Plainview man is dead in a single-car accident in Castro County on Thursday afternoon, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported Friday.
Michael Rinne, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene near Nazareth by Castro County Justice of the Peace Carroll Gerber.
Rinne was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by De Angelo Richardson, 29. Richardson was driving a 2002 Chevy van eastbound on State Highway 86 just east of Nazareth when he veered off the road and went into the south barrow ditch just before 4 p.m. Thursday.
Richardson then over-corrected, according to DPS reports, causing him to lose control of the van. The van then went back across both lanes of the highway and into the north barrow ditch, causing the van to roll over several times.
Rinne, 26, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was ejected from the van.
Richardson, who was wearing his seatbelt, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Road conditions were dry and the time and no other vehicles were involved, according to DPS.
