A Higgins man has died in Hemphill County after a one-vehicle accident on Farm-to-Market Road 1453 on Thursday morning.
The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to a one-vehicle accident roughly six miles north of Higgins just before 10 a.m. Thursday.
According to DPS reports, Ronald Pierce, 58, of Higgins, was driving his Ford Ranger north on FM 1453 when he failed to negotiate a turn, causing the truck to leave the road. The truck then struck a wire that supported a utility pole before going through a barbed wire fence and stopping in a pasture.
Pierce was pronounced dead at the scene by Hemphill County Justice of the Peace Larry Dunham.
It is unknown whether Pierce was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, as the DPS investigation into the accident is ongoing.
