The annual Window on a Wider World Wine tasting will take place Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens at 1400 Streit Drive. Tickets may be purchased in advance online at windowonawiderworld.org and will also be available at the entrance.
Patrons will enjoy food, wine, craft beer and entertainment by Chuck Alexander as they support Window on a Wider World’s mission. Attendees will also have a chance to win a trip to New York and other prizes through the annual raffle.
“Window on a Wider World is dedicated to enriching education through arts, science and cultural experiences,” said Bonnie Kellogg, development director for Window on a Wider World.
Funds raised through the annual event and raffle help support programs such as theater events at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, an annual student art show and science discovery events.
“We also bring in a children’s author every year to go to campuses and do a half-day workshop,” Kellogg said. “We try to reach every fourth grader in about 40 schools in the Texas Panhandle.”
Children from throughout the Panhandle are exposed to the arts through Window on a Wider World’s varied programs such as “Peter Rabbit” and artists in residence.
“This is really our only fundraiser event each year,” Kellogg said. “For $35 dollars you get a wine glass to keep and four tables with wine paired with a food from Macaroni Joe’s.”
All monies raised benefit the program, which has a full-time staff of Kellogg and director Ali Tiegs.
“We also have Chuck Alexander and jazz artists who will play,” Kellogg said. “It’s an evening that ultimately benefits thousands of children who would otherwise not have an opportunity to see live theater and experience these art and science activities.”
