Man shot in face; shooter arrested

Police said an Amarillo man has been hospitalized after he was wounded by a shot to the face during a fight in the streets of north Amarillo Wednesday night.


His alleged attacker, Marcus Jerome Bailey, 17, has been arrested.

About 7 p.m. Wednesday, Amarillo Police Department officers were called to the intersection of Poplar and Magnolia streets regarding a fight.

According to a news release, officers were told that someone had been shot. Police found the victim, described as a 26-year-old black male, on the porch of a residence in the 1800 block of Poplar Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, according to APD’s report.

Bailey, the suspected shooter, had left the crime scene with another male but later returned, at which time they were arrested and taken into custody.

Bailey was booked in the Potter County jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The other male was released. The incident is still under investigation by APD.
