1 dead, 1 critical after rollover in Potter County

An Amarillo teen is dead and another suffered life-threatening injuries in a rollover just northwest of Amarillo that sent four people to a local hospital Wednesday night.

At about 9:50 p.m., Anthony Estrada, 18, was driving a 2002 Honda sedan southeast on Brickplant Road about seven miles northwest of Amarillo in the Rolling Hills neighborhood, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

Estrada failed to negotiate a curve in the road and lost control of the vehicle, which rolled multiple times before coming to a rest upside-down in a deep ditch.

Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene by Potter County Justice of the Peace Richard Herman.

Four Amarillo teenagers were passengers in the vehicle and were ejected.

Trevor Chambers, 18, was airlifted to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Cheri Ray and Rebecca Ray, both 18, and 19-year-old Ambrea Michael were all taken to a local hospital by ambulance with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, according to DPS.

Speed is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash, DPS said.

The road conditions were dry, and there were no other vehicles involved.

The crash is still under investigation.
