West Texas A&M University announced Tuesday that Lal Almas has been named interim dean of the Paul Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Science.
Almas, who is the college’s associate dean, fills a vacancy left by the death of Dean Hawkins last week.
He will oversee all facets of the college, which includes the Department of Agricultural Sciences; Department of Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences; and the Department of Chemistry and Physics.
WT President Walter Wendler said Almas was stepping in at a “difficult” time for the university and the ag college.
“It’s nice knowing we have the expertise and leadership of Dr. Almas to help move the college forward and continue the work that meant so much to Dr. Hawkins. I am confident he will do an outstanding job.”
