Food establishment inspection report for Sunday, July 16, 2017

The following report reflects only demerits the establishments received.

0 demerits — No major violations at the time of inspection.

15 demerits — Considered an average number.

30 demerits or above — Requires re-inspection within 24 hours.

COS — Corrected on site during inspection.

These establishments had 0 demerits during a routine inspection: Amarillo Community Market, 1000 S. Polk St.; Joe Taco Taqueria, 7312 Wallace Blvd.

These establishments had 0 demerits during a follow-up inspection: Maria’s Cocina Mexicana, 1316 S.E. 10th Ave.

These establishments received demerits for being out of compliance as stated:

(5) Amarillo Town Club Southwest, 7700 Hillside Road: Cheese machine not holding at proper temperature; all employees doing food prep need to have hair restraints; door needs to be self-closing. To be corrected within 180 days.

(6) Blue Sky, 5060 S. Coulter St.: Quaternary test strips needed for sanitizer; shelf needs to be repaired so food is at least 6 inches off floor; need to clean can opener, cooler shelf and ice cream cooler; ceiling tiles in restroom and above tea urns/soda machine need to be smooth, nonabsorbent and easily cleanable; ANSUL system and fire extinguisher need to be inspected. To be corrected within 180 days.

(9) Burger King No. 10952, 1800 S. Georgia St.: Single-use trays and lids must be stored inverted. COS. Sink used for washing vegetables must be indirectly plumbed; back door gasket must seal tightly; drive-thru window must close easily and remain closed when not in use; need to clean reach-in cooler where frozen foods are stacked before cooking and condiment containers on underside; old drive-thru area needs to be cleaned and all unused equipment must be removed; replace missing ceiling tile and floor tiles; ceiling tiles at drink station must be smooth and easily cleanable; repair walk-in condensate line; cardboard cannot be used on shelves or as guard on soda fountain; remove small containers that are worn or chipping and no longer cleanable. To be corrected within 180 days.

(6) Dollar General Store No. 10043, 400 Harrell Lane: Several dented cans on shelves; dried food particles in reach-in cooler under milk and eggs; bottom of both reach-in coolers need to be cleaned and sanitized. To be corrected within three days. Ceiling tiles in women and men’s restrooms need to be smooth, durable, nonabsorbent and easily cleanable (repeat violation); both doors in stock room need to be tight-fitting to keep out pests (repeat violation). To be corrected within 90 days.

(5) Family Dollar Store No. 3478, 900 N.E. 24th Ave.: Dented cans on shelf for sale; inside milk cooler needs to be cleaned. COS. Back doors need new floor sweeps (repeat violation). To be corrected within 180 days.

(12) Good &Healthy Cafe, 1901 Medi Park Drive: Sanitizer bleach water in sink and in bottle too weak; bleach sanitizer test strips needed. COS. All employees who handle food must have a food handler card; commercial cooler has condensate leak that needs repairing and gaskets need to be replaced; three-compartment sink must be indirectly plumbed with air gap; fire extinguisher and vent need to be inspected; remove all unnecessary equipment that is broken or not being used. To be corrected within 180 days.

(2) H2O and Java To Go, 6010 S. Western St.: All employees need food handler cards. To be corrected within 10 days.

(1) Jason’s Deli, 7408 S.W. 34th Ave.: Ceiling tiles in restrooms must be smooth, durable and nonabsorbent. To be corrected within 180 days.

(10) Jersey Mike’s Subs, 2311 S. Georgia St.: Single use items must be stored at least six inches off ground; tea nozzles must be washed, rinsed, sanitized and air-dried every night; cutting boards must be clean before storage; bread covers must be kept clean. COS. Food manager certification must be registered with Environmental Health yearly; any cutting boards excessively worn or melted must be resurfaced or replaced; need to clean floor behind soda dispenser, walk-in freezer floor and all equipment handles; fire extinguisher and fire suppression system must be serviced; Spanish and English employee hand washing signs needed in restrooms; covered trash can needed in women’s restroom. To be corrected within 180 days.

(1) Joe Daddy’s, 2108 Paramount Blvd.: Sanitizing strips/solution needed. COS.

(8) McDonald’s, 6312 Hollywood Road: Need to clean ice machine (dirt buildup), container holding clean dishes and shelves holding microwaves. To be corrected within three days. Food manager did not know HACCP plan of pickles and hold or discard time. To be corrected within 10 days. Personal drink in reach-in cooler; back door does not seal tightly and needs a gasket; food manager card expired; current inspection not posted (repeat violation). To be corrected within 90 days.

(3) Pak A Sak No. 1, 2800 Fourth Ave., Canyon: Dirt buildup inside ice machine; soda nozzles dirty. COS.

(2) Pak A Sak No. 10, 4200 S. Soncy Road: Shelf under soda machine is sticky; dirty walls in prep room. COS. Cutting board needs to be replaced; need to clean lid holders, coffee machine and freezer. To be corrected within 180 days.

(1) Pak A Sak No. 17, 7404 S.W. 45th Ave.: Need to clean ice cream freezer and cup holders by cash register; refrigerator fans are dusty. To be corrected within 180 days.

(19) Petro Stopping Centers F I, 8500 E. I-40: Breakfast sandwiches and burritos in hot holding at improper temperatures; all products must be date marked; out of date products discarded. COS. Chemicals must be labeled; no thermometer in reach-in cooler containing drinks; thermometer broken in reach-in cooler in cooking area; cooler handles need to be replaced; wood shelves in dry storage need to be sealed; sanitizer must be available at all times food prep and cooking occurs; rags must be stored in sanitizer when not in use; need to clean utensil tubs, microwaves, can opener holster, reach-in coolers, gaskets, under shelves in dry storage and under soda syrup dispenser; non commercial equipment must be removed or cannot be used for anything other than employee items; vent hood insufficient to remove grease laden vapors and equipment not covered by hood; coffee filters must be stored when not in use; soda nozzles must be washed, rinsed, sanitized and air dried every night; bathroom ceiling tiles must be smooth, durable, nonabsorbent and easily cleanable; seal holes in wall in mop sink area, paint or seal to be easily cleanable. To be corrected within 180 days.

(4) T &M Food Mart, 1011 N.E. 24th Ave.: Need to clean tea nozzles and tongs for pickles container. COS. Restroom door must be self-closing. To be corrected within 180 days.

(9) Throwbacks Sports Bar, 7150 Bell St.: Three- compartment sink must have indirect connection; mop sink needs to have a faucet with running water; side door needs to be self-closing; lemons and limes stored on floor (all food must be at least six inches off floor); mold in refrigerator. To be corrected within 180 days.
