Food establishment report for Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018

The following report reflects only demerits the establishments received.

0 demerits — No major violations at the time of inspection.

15 demerits — Considered an average number.

30 demerits or above — Requires re-inspection within 24 hours.

COS — Corrected on site during inspection.

These establishments had 0 demerits during a routine inspection: Amarillo International Store, 827 Martin Road; McDonald’s, 715 S. Lakeside St.; Subway No. 25567-216, 1412 Ross St.; Subway No. 7854-213, 1401 E. Amarillo Blvd.

These establishments had 0 demerits during a follow-up inspection: Sonic Drive In, 2220 Ross Osage Dr.; Stix, 204 23rd St., Canyon; Toot’n Totum No. 20, 3310 Wimberly Road.

These establishments received demerits for being out of compliance as stated:

(16) 1000 Degrees Neopolitan Pizza, 2207 S. Western St.: Soda and tea nozzles dirty. Chemicals stored above ware washing areas. COS. Floor drain below three-compartment sink does not drain properly; each cold hold unit must have a thermometer in an easily viewable area; back door must self-close and seal tightly; can opener blade dull; holster jacket dirty; vents in kitchen need cleaning; grease basin outside must be maintained to prevent pest attraction; water heater catch basin must be maintained clean; acoustic tile in back room must be replaced with vinyl or similar material; prep table needs repairs; Spanish hand washing signs needed in both bathrooms. To be corrected within 10 days.

(2) Braum’s Ice Cream 180, 801 E. Amarillo Blvd.: Melted utensils; ice scoop holding water; milk dispenser splatters at nozzle area; air intakes and exhaust not clean; ceiling panels out of place. COS.

(3) Cassidy’s Polo Club, 6019 S.W. 45th Ave.: Duct tape on knife holder, knife sharpener and soda gun. COS. Fire extinguisher needs to be inspected. To be corrected within 180 days.

(16) Lemongrass Sushi & Wok, 2207 S. Western St.: Utensil bucket dirty; build-up on tea nozzle. COS. Damaged wares and utensils must be replaced; hot water warmer with calcium build-up no longer easily cleanable; wiping cloths must be maintained clean and dry or kept in solution; can opener and holster dirty; wares without handles may not be used as scoops; products removed from original container must be labeled with common name on working container; need to clean all vents in kitchen, light shields above cook line and fire suppression lines; ceiling tiles in areas exposed to moisture must be smooth, durable, non-absorbent and easily cleanable; bathroom doors must be self-closing; if vinegar is used to stabilize a product so it does not require refrigeration, a variance permit must be granted. To be corrected within 10 days. Food manager not registered. To be corrected within 45 days.

(10) Little Caesar’s, 1401 E. Amarillo Blvd.: Food containers open when not in use; food build-up on pans; reach-in cooler handles dirty; single service items not inverted; no label on foods not easily identifiable; walls and doors to walk in cooler dirty; air vent is rusted. COS.

(2) McDonald’s, 1720 Ross St.: All split or torn gaskets need to be replaced. To be corrected within 180 days.

(3) Pic N Save, 3301 E. Amarillo Blvd.: Wipe down cloth not stored properly; ice scoop not stored on sanitary surface; food product stored on dirty shelves. COS.

(5) Sinaloa Hot Dogs & Mexican Food, 2618 E. Amarillo Blvd.: Thermometers needed in both reach-in prep coolers. To be corrected within three days. Food guard/sneeze shield needed for self service cooler. To be corrected within 45 days.

(13) Sky West Assisted Living Center, 2623 12th Ave., Canyon: Personal lunch bag sitting on top of foil; eggs sitting on counter top at improper temperature. COS. Meat and fruit stored in same container in refrigerator. To be corrected within three days. Foods in refrigerator not date marked; tape on refrigerator inside door; wood behind A/C unit needs to be stained; towel under freezer; repair freezer. To be corrected within 10 days. Cleaning utensils for washing dishes stored on top of A/C unit; all vents and light in kitchen covered in dust. To be corrected within 90 days.

(13) Sonic Drive In, 1009 E. Amarillo Blvd.: Hot hold unit sets below dish dry rack; ice machine not clean inside bin; tong handle deteriorated and not cleanable; meat freezer needs to be defrosted; personal clothing on food rack; wipe down sanitizer bucket on food table; utensil tub, can opener holder and doors to walk-in dirty; rust inside ice machine; ceiling splatters at grill area. COS.

(21) Taqueria Los Gallitos, 401 E. Amarillo Blvd.: Raw eggs stored over ready-to-eat foods; splatters on bottom of shelf over hot hold; cold water shut off at food sink; no date marks on foods held more than 24 hours; no soap at one hand sink; no paper towels at second hand sink; back door open when not in use; open drink on food prep table; no wipe down cloths stored in sanitizer for use during food prep; meat thawing without cold running water in sink; meat thawing under grill at room temperature; utensil tub dirty; utensils not inverted to dry; single service items not inverted; dining room air vent dirty; manager on site not knowledgeable of thawing procedures. COS.

(4) Toot’n Totum No. 3, 6409 E. Amarillo Blvd.: Rust on rack in walk-in cooler; gap at back door; ceiling over food prep must be smooth, non-porous; tiles broken or cracked at back room and at mop sink. COS.

(8) United Supermarkets No. 527, 150 E. Amarillo Blvd.: Ice scoop holder holding water; chemical stored on food prep table; utensils stacked wet; need to clean tops of equipment, tape dispenser and ceiling fans in deli. Soda nozzle rubber is broken and not cleanable. COS.

(9) Wienerschnitzel, 1507 Ross St.: Items in prep cooler holding at improper temperature; water to hand sink and restrooms turned off due to main water line being worked on; restroom facilities must be available to employees at all times. COS. Prep cooler not maintaining proper temperature; adequate lighting needed in walk-in freezer. To be corrected within 10 days.
