DPS arrests man in Georgia Street carjackings

The Department of Public Safety arrested a man driving one of the vehicles stolen Monday evening in a pair of carjackings on Georgia Street in Amarillo.

The Carson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that David Antonio Silva was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Monday by a DPS trooper near Panhandle and taken to the sheriff’s office, according to an Amarillo Police Department news release.

At the time of his arrest, Silva was driving a silver Nissan SUV that was stolen from United Market Street at 2530 S. Georgia St. at about 4:24 p.m. Monday, APD said. Police say Silva had previously stolen a 60-year-old man’s gray Ram pickup at the Walmart on Georgia Street. The pickup was found at United Market Street.

In both carjackings, Silva allegedly opened the vehicles’ doors, pulled the drivers out and drove away.

It does not appear that the suspect used a weapon and there is no information to indicate that the victims were injured, according to APD.
