Police are investigating a robbery on New Year’s Day at a Toot’n Totum near downtown.

Officers arrived at the convenience store, located at 900 S.W. 10th Ave., just before 8:40 p.m. Two women inside who had been working at the Toot’n Totum told officers that the suspect entered the store and handed them a note demanding money and cigarettes, according to an Amarillo Police Department news release.

The suspect then pulled out a knife and pointed it at the clerks before leaving with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

The women, who were uninjured in the incident, pointed west when police at the scene asked in what direction the suspect had gone.

As many as five police offers were at the scene just after 8:45 p.m. as they began gathering evidence on and in front of the counter.

Police were careful not to touch the glass doors in front. One of the women told an officer the robber had been wearing gloves.

The suspect, a white male, was also wearing a red or orange shirt, black sweatpants, a black baseball cap and a grey cover over his face, police said.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call APD or Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400. Tips can also be given anonymously online at amapolice.org.
