State Rep. Four Price, R-Amarillo, on Monday announced his bid to seek re-election to a fifth term in 2018.
Price, an attorney first elected to the House in 2010, represents House District 87, which covers Potter, Sherman, Moore, Carson and Hutchinson counties.
In a news release Monday, Price touted his accomplishments during the 2017 session, which included authoring several successful bills and serving as chairman of the House Committee on Public Health.
“If voters send me back to the Texas Capitol, I will continue my commitment to improving our area and our state with sensible solutions to the issues we face,” Price said.
The filing period began Saturday and ends Dec. 11 for the March 6 Republican primary election.
The general election will take place Nov. 6, 2018.
Price’s statement did not indicate if he has decided to seek the open House speaker position being vacated by State Rep. Joe Straus, R-San Antonio, ahead of the 2019 Legislative session.
Since Straus’ announcement last month that he won’t seek re-election, Price has said publicly he’s weighing his options after being encouraged by fellow House members to pursue the speaker’s seat.
