Amarillo golfer Escobedo qualifies for tournaments

Alexis Escobedo is coming off a huge week of golf that saw the 14-year old qualify into a couple of major junior tournaments later this summer.

Escobedo, who will be a freshman at Amarillo High in August, shot a 74 at the Ladera Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M. on Wednesday. That score punched her ticket into the Girls Junior Americas Cup as a part of the New Mexico team.

The 18 team field tournament, which doesn’t include a Texas squad, starts on July 30th through Aug. 3 at the Reflection Bay Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nev.

On Thursday, Escobedo shot a 75 back at the Ladera Golf Course to qualify for the IMG Academy Junior World Championships.

Escobedo will play in the 13-14 year old division, teeing off at the Club of Rancho Bernardo in San Diego, Calif. on July 11-14th.

Escobedo tees off in the Texas-Oklahoma Junior Open this morning in Wichita Falls. The 54-hole event will see Escobedo play The Champions Course at Weeks Park on Monday and Wednesay and the Wichita Falls Country Club Tuesday and Thursday.

Escobedo is a four-time defending champion of her age group.
