West Texas A&M’s Lexy Hightower has been named the Lone Star Conference women’s offensive player of the week for the second time this season.
Hightower, a sophomore from Amarillo High, led the Lady Buffs to road victories over Cameron and Midwestern State, going 16-of-30 from the floor, including 6-of-12 from 3-point range, averaging 23 points a game. Last weekend against Midwestern, Hightower scored a career-high 27 points in a 78-67 victory.
She also won the award on Dec. 20
Merket earns SAC honors: Canadian graduate Maci Merket of Wayland Baptist University has been named Sooner Athletic Conference women’s player of the week.
Merket, a 5-foot-10 junior guard, helped the No. 6 Flying Queens’ to two home wins. She led the team in scoring in both victories, hitting 17 points in a 95-59 win over Central Christian and a season-high 22 in a 73-66 win over No. 4 defending NAIA champion Oklahoma City, when she also logged her fifth double-double of the season with 13 rebounds.
For the week, Merket averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
It’s Merket’s second SAC Player of the Week recognition this season. She first was recognized Nov. 20.
