Lady Buffs open NCAA postseason Friday afternoon against Arkansas-Fort Smith

The newly crowned Lone Star Conference tournament champion West Texas A&M Lady Buffs will make the program’s fifth straight showing in the NCAA Division II national tournament starting Friday.


WT (27-4 overall) came in as a No. 2-seed in the NCAA Division II South Central Region and will face the No. 7-seed Arkansas-Fort Smith (20-10) at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Rip Griffin Center on the campus of host school Lubbock Christian University.

WT is the defending South Central Regional champion. In 24 appearances as a program, the Lady Buffs have built a 35-23 all-time record in the NCAA Division II national tournament.

The No. 3-seed Colorado State-Pueblo (24-7), the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament champ, battles MSU Denver (22-8) to open the tournament at noon.

On the other side of the bracket, top-seed LCU beat UAFS in Sunday’s Heartland Conference tournament finals. The Lady Chaps (28-1) will play the second of three LSC school’s to advance into the regional. LCU takes on the No. 8-seed Tarleton State (20-11) at 6 p.m. Friday.

Black Hills State (24-7) and Angelo State (22-6) from the LSC close out the night at 8:30 p.m in the No. 4-5 matchup.
