Career highlight: Rugenerwa became the first boys athlete from Amarillo High claim a pair of gold medals in the same year at the UIL Class 5A state track and field meet in May. Rugenerwa won the 3200-meter in a time of 9:20.83, followed by the 800-meter run by clocking a 1:53.27.

Why WT: “It’s close to family and I don’t want to be far away from home. I was struggling with my decision but I have friends and family who have helped me and made the decision way easier. There’s a lot of people to thank but mostly it would be my counselor, my coaches, all my friends and all my track buddies too.”
